Things We Thought We’d Have Figured Out by Now

I was thinking the other day…

there are certain things you just assume you’ll have sorted by now.

Not big, dramatic things.

Just… life things.

The kind you imagine will quietly fall into place as the years go by.

Like knowing exactly what you’re doing.

Or having all the answers ready when they’re needed.

Or waking up one morning and thinking,

“Right… I’ve cracked it.”

Strange thing is… that moment never quite arrives, does it?

You get older, yes.

You gather a few stories.

A bit of experience.

A few lessons — some learned the easy way… most not.

But that feeling of fully knowing…

of having it all neatly worked out…

It stays just out of reach.

And for a long time, I think we see that as a bit of a failure.

We tell ourselves we should be more certain.

More organised.

More… together.

But stood at the gate this morning,

watching the world go about its business,

I found myself wondering…

What if that’s not how it’s meant to work?

What if the whole point isn’t to have everything figured out…

but to keep figuring things out?

Because when you look closely, the people who seem the most at ease aren’t the ones with all the answers.

They’re the ones who’ve made peace with the questions.

They’ve learned to carry a bit of uncertainty without it weighing them down.

They don’t rush it.

They don’t fight it.

They just… walk alongside it.

And maybe that’s where we land.

Not in a place of perfect understanding, but in a place of quiet acceptance.

Knowing that some things will always be a bit unclear.

Some decisions will always feel like a guess.

Some days will feel like you’re making it up as you go along.

Because the truth is…

we are.

And perhaps that’s not something to fix.

Perhaps that’s something to trust.

Because even without all the answers,

we’ve still made it this far.

We’ve still found our way through.

And chances are…

we’ll keep doing just that.

One uncertain step at a time.
