Songs from the Gate
Just Passing Through
A gentle reflection on the road behind us, the road ahead, and the strange privilege of simply being here for the journey.
About the song
Just Passing Through grew from the thought that life is less about reaching some final destination and more about noticing the road while we’re on it — the people beside us, the places behind us, and the moments we almost miss.
It’s a song about carrying gratitude alongside uncertainty — knowing none of us stays forever, but that the journey can still be rich, meaningful and full of moments worth holding onto.

Lyrics
Verse 1
This road is long, if we’re lucky enough
A winding trail through smooth and rough
Some days sunshine, some days rain
Some days laughter, some days pain
We travel light, we travel slow
Never quite sure how far we’ll go
Just finding our way from bend to bend
A stranger today, tomorrow a friend
Chorus
We’re just passing through
That’s all we really do
A little while beneath these skies
Then gone like morning dew
So leave a light behind
For someone else to find
A helping hand, a word or two
For those just passing through
Verse 2
I’ve met people carrying hidden scars
Dreaming beneath the same old stars
Some were lost and some were found
Some just needed solid ground
And I’ve learned that kindness travels far
It shines brighter than the finest star
You never know what burden hides
Behind the face that smiles outside
Chorus
We’re just passing through
That’s all we really do
A little while beneath these skies
Then gone like morning dew
So leave a light behind
For someone else to find
A helping hand, a word or two
For those just passing through
Bridge
No one remembers every mile
Every tear or every smile
But hearts recall the ones who cared
The ones who stopped, the ones who shared
And when my journey reaches dusk
As every traveller’s journey must
I hope somebody softly says
“He helped me on my way.”
Final Chorus
We’re just passing through
Across these fields of blue
And if we’ve made one burden less
Then maybe that’s enough to do
Leave a light behind
For someone else to find
A helping hand, a word or two
For those just passing through
Outro
This road is long, if we’re lucky enough
And we’re all just passing through…
