A Lodge, A Toast, and One Happy Dog

Sometimes, life hands you a moment so lovely, you just have to write it down.

We’d just arrived at a beautiful lodge in East Yorkshire — a little escape to reset, recharge, and enjoy a few home comforts in a new setting. What we didn’t expect was to open the door and be greeted by a bottle of chilled champagne and a selection of thoughtful goodies. The welcome was so warm, it almost felt like the place had been waiting just for us.

The lodge itself was simply perfect: warm wood tones, a hot tub bubbling quietly outside, and a patio with seats just asking to be lounged in. It felt like home, only better — with fewer chores and a bit more sparkle.

After a quick unpack (we’re quite efficient these days), we decided not to wait. Glasses clinked, champagne flowed, and we raised a toast — to time together, to being well enough to travel, and to the good fortune of little getaways like this one.

And then there’s Marnie.

Our four-legged companion was delighted to discover that he, too, had a welcome gift — a little bag of treats just for him. He strutted around like he owned the place (he may still think he does), occasionally casting a satisfied glance our way, as if to say, “Good choice.”

It was one of those perfectly ordinary yet completely magical days. The kind that sticks with you—not because something dramatic happened, but because it didn’t need to.

🐾 What’s Next?

We’re not always travelling. In fact, most of our days are spent surrounded by well-loved chairs, squeaky gates, and tea mugs with history. But whether we’re off somewhere fancy or just watching the seasons turn in our garden, we’ll be writing it down. Little stories. Big feelings. The occasional biscuit review.

We’re glad you’re here.
